When we met by the newly planted trees 2024

On Tuesday 9th July 2024 Future Machine, Rachel and Caroline returned to Cannington Primary School.

The newly planted trees were growing and thriving and the school gave Future Machine a great welcome. Again we met with every class throughout the day. This time children from each class were invited to write poems, tree cries, based on the tradition of town criers that came to towns, ringing a bell and calling out the news to the dwellers of the town.

The ‘Cannington Primary Tree Criers’ were invited to put on a costume. The rest of the class met Future Machine and took turns to turn the lever and handle. First we turned the lever to the future, the tree criers rang the bell and read out their poems.

Next we went to the past and listened to the messages people had left in the past from the different places that Future Machine visits around the country. One of the messages played to Hazel Class (all the classes are named after trees) was from last year’s Hazel Class – in 2023!

Finally, we played the music of the weather. It was a day of all weather and the music changed constantly throughout the day as the sun came in and out, the wind blew strong and then calmed. Luckily it only drizzled slightly in the morning.

The tree cries were beautiful and hopefully Future Machine will continue to play them into the future, the children may even get to hear them again next year!
